51CrV4 / 1.8159, 58CrV4 / 1.8161, 59CrV4 / 1.2242 - specification and application

50HF and DIN / EN equivalent alloys are structural alloys used in the engineering industry for heavy-duty spring components and oil hardened springs.

The steel, unlike other carbon and alloy grades, is characterized by high hardness, low vulnerability to tempering, resistance for variable and heavy loads, and the ability to operate at elevated temperatures up to 300 ℃. Surface-hardened, retains excellent strength properties of the core while maintaining sufficient surface hardness.

58CrV4 / 1.8161 and 59CrV4 / 1.2242 are related grades with the same range of alloying additives. It is distinguished by the higher carbon content, which makes it possible to achieve even higher hardness after heat treatment.

51CrV4 / 50CrV4 / 58CrV4 / 59CrV4 grades are supplied as hot-rolled bars, drawn bars, wires, spring stripes, forgings are used for the production of heavy-duty springs, axles, crankshafts, connecting rods, compression springs, valve springs, springs, shock absorbers or spring washers.

It is mainly supplied in an annealed, softened, heat-treated and raw conditions. Steel does not exhibit corrosion resistance, so products should be protected with greases or coatings.
