X20Cr13, 1.4021, AISI 420 - specification and application

Martensitic stainless steel intended for thermal improvement, showing high mechanical properties - strength, ductility and machinability, while maintaining sufficient corrosion resistance. 2H13 does not show resistance to chlorine, salts and intergranular corrosion. X20Cr13 is a suitable grade for work in steam environments, in low concentrations of inorganic acids, diluents, clean water and steam at a suitably treated surface.

Steel X20Cr13 and 2H13 can also be classified as a heat-resistant grade up to 825 degrees. Shows resistance to gases containing sulphur compounds and a hot steam. Stable and appropriately high mechanical properties are maintained in the operating temperature range 475 - 500. Above the early-mentioned temperature, the creep limit is negligible, only the time resistance is relatively high.

The grade is used for the production of bolts at elevated temperatures, turbine blades, knives, decoration, surgical instruments, bushings, valve seats, scrapers, blades, ramparts, checks, springs, machine parts, moulds for casting under pressure, and the pins exposed to light loads in the automotive, petrochemical, industrial hydraulics and energy industries.
