50NiCr13, 1.2721 – description

Cold working tool steel used for cold heading dies, hobbing punches and cutlery dies.


Physical and mechanical properties

The hardness after soft annealing: min 250 HBW.

The hardness after toughening depends on the tempering temperature:

  • Tempering temperature: 100 °C - 59 HRC
  • Tempering temperature: 200 °C - 56 HRC
  • Tempering temperature: 300 °C - 52 HRC
  • Tempering temperature: 400 °C - 48 HRC

Heat treatment and working

Recommended working and heat treatment parameters for 1.2721 alloy:

  • Forging: 1050-850 °C
  • Rolling: 1050-850 °C
  • Stress-relieving: 610-650 °C
  • Quenching: 840-870 °C
  • Tempering: 160-300 °C

We deliver this steel alloy as:

  • Round Bars, flat and square bars
  • Forgings and forged blocks
