50NiCr13, 1.2721 – description
Cold working tool steel used for cold heading dies, hobbing punches and cutlery dies.
Physical and mechanical properties
The hardness after soft annealing: min 250 HBW.
The hardness after toughening depends on the tempering temperature:
- Tempering temperature: 100 °C - 59 HRC
- Tempering temperature: 200 °C - 56 HRC
- Tempering temperature: 300 °C - 52 HRC
- Tempering temperature: 400 °C - 48 HRC
Heat treatment and working
Recommended working and heat treatment parameters for 1.2721 alloy:
- Forging: 1050-850 °C
- Rolling: 1050-850 °C
- Stress-relieving: 610-650 °C
- Quenching: 840-870 °C
- Tempering: 160-300 °C
