WWS, WWS1 tool steel

Hot working tool steel with high impact and shock sensitivity. It has a high resistance to tempering, stability at high temperatures, high hardenability and hardness. Unlike WWV, WWS/WWS1 has a higher thermal conductivity, resulting in a relatively lower heating sensitivity. The WWS1 grade is a better version of the WWS steel, enriched with chromium addition - the material achieves much higher hardness compared to WWS. Tools made of steel must be heated to a temperature of approx. 200°C before starting work and the tempering temperatures must not be exceeded.

The material is used for the production of dies and punches, moulds for casting aluminium and magnesium alloys, jaws for thread rolling, forging trimmings, as well as knives for hot cutting of products with large cross-sections. Other applications include screw and rivet production dies, extrusion dies, die inserts, dies for mechanical and hydraulic presses, forge stamps, compression/break-out stamps for screw heads, rivets and nuts. Sleeves for extrusion of non-ferrous metals, extrusion presses for extrusion of pipes and preforms from copper alloys, recipient sleeves. The material in the tempered condition reaches a hardness of min. 46 HRC.

Mechanical properties of WWS1
