Alloy N86, Nimonic® 86 – description
Nimonic 86 is a solid solution nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy with alloying additions of magnesium and cerium. It is exceptionally resistant to cyclic oxidation at 1050°C, ductile, weldable, and creep-resistant.
Applications
Used in aerospace (gas turbine combustion chambers, afrerburner parts) and thermal processing (heat-treatment furnace equipment).

Corrosion Resistance
Alloy N86 is extremely resistant to cyclic oxidation at 1050°C. Please compare the test results. Test conditions: 15 minutes at 1050°C followed by 5 minutes air cooling.
Heat Treatment, Working and Machining
Heat treatment of sheets: 1150°C for 10 min, air cooling
Heat treatment of sheets: 1150°C for 2-4 h, air cooling
Thermal Stability, Cold Working, and Heat Treatment: Nimonic 86 undergoes precipitation hardening followed by recrystallization when exposed to 500–600°C for long periods of times. Cold working accelerates the process and extends the temperature range to 450–700°C. In contrast, rapid cooling after annealing improves thermal stability by prolonging the time required for hardening to occur.
Weldability
Good weldability. Best weld using TIG process, using matching composition filler wire.
