HS6-5-2-5, 1.3243, AISI M41 - specification and application

High-speed steel with very good ductility, high cutting properties and tempering temperature, designed for work with difficult-to-cut materials with high hardness, including austenitic steels.

It is mainly used for special drills and cutters, tools for machining of gears, shape knives, turning and planing knives. SK5M steel is used for machining rims, rollers, wheelsets and cast iron products.

Mechanical properties of HS6-5-2-5, 1.3243, AISI M41 steel

  • Hardness in softening annealed condition +A: 223-285 HB
  • Hardness after hardening and tempering:
    • in a temp. of 300℃ = 62,5 HRC
    • in a temp. of 350℃ = 62 HRC
    • in a temp. of 400℃ = 62 HRC
    • in a temp. of 450℃ = 63 HRC
    • in a temp. of 500℃ = 64 HRC
    • in a temp. of 550℃ = 65 HRC
    • in a temp. of 600℃ = 62,5 HRC
    • in a temp. of 650℃ = 56 HRC
    • in a temp. of 700℃ = 47 HRC

Heat and temperatures of processes for HS5 6-5-2-5, 1.3243, AISI M41 steel:

  • Nitriding at temperature of 510 - 530 ℃
  • Softening in the temperature of 800 - 900 ℃
  • Relief annealing at a temperature of 600 - 700℃
  • Heating no. I in a temperature of about 550℃
  • Heating no. II in a temperature of about 850℃
  • Austenitization at 1180 - 1220℃
  • Tempering at temperature of 550 - 570 ℃
