Steel C125S, 1.1224 - implementation and specification

Non-alloy carbon spring steel is used for leaf springs and springs with small cross-sections. It is characterized by low hardenability and high carbon range in relation to C90S, C75S, C85S, and C67S steel. Designed for spring elements requiring high elasticity and hardness.

It does not show corrosion resistance, and during heat treatment it is exposed to decarburization and oxidation, which means that the material should be protected against treatment using a protective atmosphere. Poorly carried out treatment is associated with reduced fatigue strength.

Products made of C125S steel and its equivalents are produced in the form of flat semi-finished products - cold rolled strips, small-format thin sheets. Tempering of C125S steel is carried out in oil, and after tempering the product shows the structure of tempered martensite.

Products made of C125S steel are characterized by high tensile strength and yield strength. Thermal improvement consists in austenitising the product at a temperature of 780 - 860 and tempering at a temperature of 350 - 500 ℃.
