100CrMo7, 100CrMo7-3 - specification and application

The 100CrMo7 and 100CrMo7-3 grades are chromium high-purity steels with high hardness, equivalent to tool steels, and with significant resistance to fatigue stress.

The 100CrMo7 material is a much better alternative and the equivalent of the 100Cr6 material. Molybdenum-containing products have better hardening capacity and can be used with much larger cross-sections compared to the 100Cr6 grade.

The remaining properties of the material are approximate to the original. Products in the aforementioned grades are used for the manufacture of bearings, parts of certain machines, medium-sized bearings, ball bearings, rollers and rings.

Mechanical properties

  • Hardness in spheroidized annealing condition +AC: < 217 HB
  • Hardness in spheroidized annealing condition after drawing +AC+C: < 251 HB
  • Hardness of tubes and sleeves <321 HB
  • Density ρ 7,79 g/cm3

Heat treatment

  • Spheroidizing annealing at 820 - 890 ℃ in air
  • Normalising annealing at 880 - 910 °C in air
  • Hardening to achieve martensitic structure with cooling in oil at 840 - 880 ℃
  • Hardening to achieve a bainitic structure with cooling in a salt bath at 850 - 875 ℃
  • Tempering at 150 220℃ C with cooling in ait
  • Relief annealing at 550 - 650℃
